On the Call Tonight
Tonight I am on the call for a high school playoff game in West Virginia. A pair of AAA teams will lock horns in the first round. The two teams have met before, the #3 seed Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles welcome in the #14 Seed Cabell Midland Knights. The 2 teams played before on September 23rd with Woodrow Wilson winning 32-14. Some key points in this game, Midland's star tailback Wade Midkiff is going to try to play despite a broken bone in his left leg, if he can't go, Christian Edwards has proven in the past that he can get it done, but Midkiff is clearly the man. Also, Woodrow Wilson's flash tailback Marcus Manns rushed for 334 yards last week and 5 touchdowns. I cant even get my Heisman tailback to rush for that much in NCAA 2006.
Woodrow Wilson runs the double wing, and they have perfected it. I mean they run this thing better than I've ever seen an offense run it, and it takes a certain amount of discipline from everyone to make this thing work. Last time they met, they ran it with the fullback Emeka Eneje up the middle during their first drive. After they established that, they faked to the fullback and pitched to one of the wings that they sent in motion during the "pre-snape phase". This team is fun to watch and they could be very dangerous in the playoffs.
Cabell Midland is a pretty young team but they do have some playmakers. I particularly enjoy watching Josh Turley, a senior linebacker and fullback who runs hard and makes plays on defense. They use several different formations on offense and if they have Wade Midkiff, then they will make things interesting. Midkiff mentioned earlier this morning that he wants to play, he can deal with the pain, and I cant imagine him missing a playoff game, in what could be his final game of his high school career.
Listen tonight on 930 AM WRVC in Huntington, WV. I will put up an NFL Preview posting sometime tomorrow, or later this afternoon, a long with a few other broadcasting posts.
